is being used by colleges as a key differentiator to demonstrate
their capability in delivering STEM provision that meets the needs of business and
industry. STEM Assured is the standard in Further Education that has been specifically
developed to assure the quality of an integrated, cross‐curricular approach to STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) vocational education.
The STEM Assured process involves a critical review of a provider's strategy and
approach to ensure their vocational STEM offer meets the needs of employers and
sectors. The standard highlights and assures performance in six key areas: Strategy
and Planning, Engagement, Design and Delivery, Innovation, Standards and Impact.
City and Islington College, Macclesfield College and South Devon College have successfully
achieved the Standard. The first STEM Assured Standard was conferred by Her Majesty
the Queen to City and Islington College in March 2011.
